Marvelous Redemption

The book of Ruth closes with one of the most breathtaking moments in all of Scripture, and in this final chapter, we witness what it truly means for redemption to be completed. At the heart of Ruth chapter four is a transaction at the city gate, where Boaz pursues the redemption of Naomi and Ruth with integrity, urgency, and sacrifice. What strikes us most is not just the legal mechanics of the kinsman-redeemer process, but the character behind it. Every step Boaz takes is above reproach, done in the open, witnessed by elders, and carried out the very next day after making his promise. There is a profound spiritual lesson here for all of us: the small, faithful choices we make every day compound over time into something far greater than we can imagine. Ruth's daily decisions to follow, to glean, to trust, and to act with courage led her to a place of restoration she could never have engineered on her own. And woven through all of it is the quiet, steady hand of a God who is always working toward redemption, even when we cannot see it. The birth of Obed at the end of the chapter is not just the completion of one family's story. It is the beginning of a lineage that runs straight to King David, and beyond David, to Jesus himself. That is the invitation this message extends to us: to trust that God is working in our unseen moments, building something marvelous that we may not fully understand until much later.
